School system moves to Plan A for elementary students

The Carteret County Board of Education met September 24, 2020, in special session to consider revisions to the elementary school schedule based on the Governor’s September 17, 2020, announcement. Board members voted to transition elementary school students to Plan A, which is five-day a week face-to-face instruction, beginning October 19, 2020. Middle school and high schools will continue to operate on Plan B. All students may continue to opt to be 100 percent virtual.

A LOOK AT PLAN A FOR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS -
Beginning October 19, 2020, pre-kindergarten through fifth grade elementary school students in Carteret County may attend school five days a week for face-to-face instruction. Families may opt for their elementary students to attend 100 percent remotely.

For elementary students opting to attending face-to-face five days a week, here is more information:

Face coverings for students and employees will continue to be required.

Wellness Checks will continue for school bus riders and car riders.

Social Distancing will continue in common areas such as hallways, restrooms, etc.

Social Distancing will be adhered to in classrooms when possible but there will be times when students may be within six feet of each other for extended periods to time.

Buses may operate with multiple students in a seat, and schools may need to operate double bus routes.
